| Historian Gibbon says in one place that the Romans for nearly four centuries failed to realize that their civilization was decaying. Why should then other people, from other empires scattered in time, notice it? However, many inhabitants of the Fortress say that they can hear a monotonous sound of the death rattle. Petar Ćurčić has also heard it and recognized it as a sigh of the Western Civilization under a long-lasting process of decay: all that we have known as spirit or spirituality is decomposing and evaporating, and a nightmare or galimatias is created instead. Petar Ćurčić knows well that all we have is what we are doing right Now. Because, what has just been is the past, and what will be – well, is it going to be as Petar expects, or somehow quite different? That is why Petar is free from all the burdens of Time, and that is why he happily dwells among the numberless treasures of the bygone millennia. It seems that the 17th or 18th centuries are closest to him, but why should it matter at all when compared to another angle of vision – the eternity? |
