| Sometimes, the Great Danube stops amazed pushing away ruffled waves to be able to see with his all-seeing eye a strange thing: Food Supplies Bastion, with its obtuse angle, with its basement cells. On the left – Storage Gate, on the right – Water Gate, with St. John of Nepomuk Gate. The saint is patron of bridges, sailors, riverbank workers. Strangers often fail to see even the Fortress, which gets lost, for a moment, in Time – and then they cannot find the right moment to return – let alone spot the Food Supplies Bastion! The Maestros from the Fortress know this very well, so they sometimes leave enigmatic trails for the uninformed, in the form of touchingly-intimate poetic lines, with mystical messagse, just like Gojko Đurović has done writing down the Fortress runes: Ask the Danube maybe it will tell you which Lady mirroring for centuries in its bosoms is the most beautiful? If, as an old gentleman, it refuses to tell, we'll know he thinks of the Belle reclining on the Varadin Rock. |
