JANKOV Dragan
Born in Novi Sad in 1961.
Finished “Bogdan Šuput” Secondary School of Applied Arts in Novi Sad (1980). Graduated from the Academy of Arts - Painting Department in Novi Sad (1989). Member of UPIDIV since 1988.
Exhibited at more than 100 national and international exhibitions.
One-man exhibitions: Novi Sad (1987, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2002), Belgrade (1988, 1994), Paris (1990), Zrenjanin (1994).
Awards: Award for drawing at 4th Biennial of Yugoslav Student Drawing, Belgrade (1987); Award at 10th Salon of Sremska Mitrovica, S. Mitrovica (1990); Award for painting at ULUV, ULUS, Spring Exhibition, Belgrade (1991); Award for painting at 20th Salon of Novi Sad, Novi Sad (1991); Award at 41st SULUV Spring Exhibiton, Novi Sad (1992); Award for painting at 45th SULUV Annual Exhibition, Novi Sad (1996).

| There are two kinds of light – external and internal. Dragan Jankov tries to paint the internal light as the truth about the world and the living beings around him. In this light, there is something much more important than the external shape of things. It is rather difficult to achieve. The painter has to be "in the spirit", because painting is a spiritual discipline and here, Jankov feels his inability to reach the truth alone, with his own powers, with his talent. There are also memories, clear, frozen images, colours and smells that have been accompanying Jankov all his life. He is trying to paint them: to capture the fine transparence of the atmosphere! There is, and Jankov knows it, the fortress with its external beauty and its internal darkness, hidden deep inside. |
