KARLAVARIS Bogomil

Born in Perlez on 18 September 1924.
Education: School of Teachers in Vršac, Advanced School of Pedagogy in Novi Sad and Academy of Visual Arts in Belgrade (1953). Won a Ph.D. in Visual Arts Pedagogy in Greiswald, Germany, 1969). For some time, worked as a professor of Teaching Methods in Visual Art Education at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. Participated in many national and international group exhibitions.
One-man exhibitions (more than 60): Novi Sad, Belgrade, Zagreb, Skopje, Podgorica, Rijeka… Stuttgart, Warsaw, Moscow, Munich, Rosenheim, Graz…
Awards: Award for painting at 6th Exhibition of Art Colony in Ečka (1961); “25th May" Award, Belgrade (1968); October Award of the City of Novi Sad (1969); Iskra kulture/Spark of Culture Prize, (1972); Award at the Exhibition of Art Colony in Bačka Topola (1974); Award of the Town of Bačka Topola “Nagypathy Kukac Peter” (1976); 1st prize at the Exhibition of Art Colony, Niš (1987); “International Award E. Ziegfeld” (1993); Order of Labour with Golden Wreath; Order of Merits for the People with silver rays; Medallions, Letters of Gratitude of the cities of Paris and Novi Sad.

| 13. Sometimes, when his will, fallen asleep, awakens, when he says "It will be better", he eagerly gets down to work. He fastens the ropes, checks the equipment, the supplies. He directs the ship toward the only landmark – the river's smoke. (In the storm, strong wind tears away the foam from the wave crests and carries it as fog or the river smoke). Of course, it is the road to nowhere, and nowhere will he arrive. 14. It was like that until one night the fire from the river depth, beforef his eyes, ejected the Bank, the Wild Land of infertility and lava, being demolished by dark storms, rising gloomily, with snowy peaks, geysers, sulphur wells and volcano abysses. No living creature, as usual, anywhere around. All is dead, there's wasteland causing an ache in his stomach. |
