| Julijana Kiš has been on friendly terms with the Fortress for more than a half of the century now. Although she has visited all of its walls and most of its catacombs, the Fortress surprises her from day to day with its Beauty, Secrets and Power. Throughout history, the Fortress has been changing its inhabitants: those aggressive and malevolent, but also the courageous and noble ones... It was destroyed and reconstructed, more or less successfully, but it still lives, in spite of its numerous scars inflicted by the ravages of time. Plants and animals make a Special World of the Fortress. Its authentic inhabitants are: collared doves, pheasants, black and yellow blackbirds, noisy sparrows, ravens and evil magpies, titmice, swallows, nutcrackers, woodpeckers. At night you can hear owls, and at the end of the day and in the dawn, nightingales. In hot summer nights, crickets perform their concerts, and fire-flies light the paths to hedgehogs, bugs and rodents. Snakes, squirrels and some gray dormouse can also sometimes be seen on the Fortress. One rainy, spring night, Julijana Kiš experienced a strange event. In front of her studio, she noticed a yellow shabby fox sitting quietly by a puddle. Slowly, without hurry, she pulled out live fish from the water and disappeared among trees. It was reality, not phantasmagoria! The only thing that terrifies Julijana Kiš is meeting a skunk – a skunk in human shape. |
