Near Arkanj, there stands the Red Rock. It dominates over widely stretched Danube as far as the eye can see. It is like a watchtower from which you can see every sailing vessel. The task of the Red Rock inhabitants is to warn the warriors of Arkanj about the arrival of strangers, by means of smoke, or mirrors, or fire. The Red Rock got its name after its specific red colour that originates from the colour of houses and fortifications made of baked red clay. Ramparts, buildings, gunpowder magazines, stables and water wells are built according to the fortification plan. Clay, taken from locations near the very fortress, is applied to constructions made of  rocks and broken stones. Then, large quantities of fired wood are distributed around the construction, so that the clay can be baked. The clay contains much iron and after baking it becomes purple red. Merchant ships, sailing towards the Black Sea, or coming back to the heart of Europe, used to carry most diverse cargoes. They knew in advance that they would sail past the Red Rock and that they would have to give a certain quantity of their goods to the warriors of the Arkanj civilization. In return, they were given guides to take them through the network of navigable routes of the huge swamp.
