Painter, Tapestry artist

(Novi Sad, 16 January 1922 – Novi Sad, 10 October 1982)

Finished Grammar School in Novi Sad and enrolled in Academy of Visual Arts in Belgrade (1940). The following year, abandoned his studies and returned to Novi Sad. Enrolled in the Academy of Visual Arts in Budapest. In 1942, arrested (for anti-Fascist activities as Yugoslavia's young communist) in Budapest and expelled from the Academy. Returned to Novi Sad. After the war, continued his studies at the Arts Academy in Belgrade (Class of Prof. Milo Milunović). Exhibited for the first time (1948) in Belgrade and Novi Sad at group exhibitions. Then interrupted his studies to work at the art studio of Milo Milunović in Belgrade (1949). In the same year, he got employed with Culture and Education Association of Vojvodina in Novi Sad. In the period 1949-1953, worked as a teacher at the Secondary School of Industrial Design in Novi Sad. Held his first one-man show in 1951. In the period from 1953 – 1965, worked as the curator of the Vojvodina Museum in Novi Sad. During that period, acted as co-founder and the member of art colonies in Bačka Topola, Senta, Ečka and Bečej. He was also one of the founders of the “Group 57” in Belgrade. In 1961, with Etelka Tobolka, established the first workshop for tapestry production “Atelje 61” in Novi Sad. He graduated from Academy of Visual Arts in Belgrade in 1969, then worked as a teacher at the Advanced School of Pedagogy in Novi Sad (1969 - 1975), later as an associate professor (1975) and full professor (1980) at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad – Visual Arts Department. Granted 24 paintings (oil on canvas) to the Modern Art Gallery in Novi Sad (1976-1978). As member of ULUS, ULUV and SLUJ, took part in a number of group exhibitions in the country and abroad.
One-man exhibitions: Novi Sad (17), Belgrade (5), Zrenjanin (2), Subotica (2), Crvenka, Vrbas, Borovo, Aranđelovac, Zagreb, Niš, Sombor, Pančevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Zemun.
Awards:: Order of Labour of the 3rd Class (1958); October Award of the City of Novi Sad (1962);  7th- July Award and Award of Applied Artsists Association of Serbia (1963);  Order of National Merit with silver rays (1964); Medallion of the City of Novi Sad (1979); Medallion of SUBNOR of Yugoslavia (1980)  and Liberation Award of Vojvodina (1981).

30. It was difficult for him to assess the distance of objects, and their size, as well. He was not too excited. It may be just one in the sequence of mirages that often haunted him. And not only the mirage; his experiences with drifting fires, fires of backwaters, that are met in the fog, were abundant.
