STANKOVIĆ Nebojša

STANKOVIĆ Nebojša
Sculptor
(Niš, 1952 – Novi Sad, 2001)
"I was born in Niš on 30 April 1952. So, what? I was here for a short while, and also there for some time, and here again, and there again. Here forever. My Đava [short for 'Tvrđava', 'Fortress'], my studio, hey, who cares about it at all!
Well, I am a sculptor, but let's go somewhere for a drink. My pubs, let's hang out together for a while, let's have a drink, and the studio is still there, come another time. If you don't find me there, you'll find me in the pub, my love. Maybe I'll even draw something for you. Yesterday, I got quite drunk, so now I must have a drink to shake me up a little. You know, just to bring me back to life. Let's go, in heaven's name, don't bother me. If I get upset, you'll have to buy me a drink!"
A Man with a Sole on his Cheeks [prov. 'shameless'], sculpture, bronza
When the wet, gloomy autumn falls over the Fortress, it locks itself up, alienates and becomes silent. The rain begins to fall and everything is depressive, unpleasant. On one of the Fortress Terraces, Nebojša Stanković dreamt out an architectural glass sculpture, actually a sculptured restaurant. Then, thanks to Nebojša, we can seize a bit of pleasure from cold autumn days while, the Fortress gains in warmth and intimacy. |
