Leaning over the rampart, he is watching the City stretching below him across the endless plain. Here and there, flames of the rising Sun cast a reflection against the window panes. The silvery river is lazily passing the City and the green serpentine rock with the powerful Petrovaradin Fortress atop. He visualizes the bare rock above the river before the construction of the acropolis. The windows and mirrors of the City reflect a rising number of light rays. The City is shimmering, busy. Memories are breaking through; his eyes follow the line on the rock along which he used to climb as a child in order to conquer the Fortress and phanasizing about discovery – in its unending and mysterious corridors illuminated with his torch - of some treasure. The treasure he used to listen about from old men who would sit in the evening around fire in good mood andeager to tell mystery tales. Dušan Todorović had no presentiment that one day he would, in a quite different manner, conquer this powerful place from which he is now watching the City bathing in the light of the bright spring morning. |
