VOJINOVIC BudimirCartoonist–Journalist, Painter-Graphic artist

Born in 1932 in Novi Sad.
Educated in Novi Sad and Belgrade, where he finished Academy of Applied Arts (Class of Prof. Mihajlo Petrov). He drew the first cartoon and published it in “Slobodna Vojvodina” magazine in 1950.  He spent all his career (1958-1996) with Dnevnik, the newspaper company in Novi Sad, as a cartoonist. In addition to Dnevnik, he also published his cartoons in nearly all newspapers and magazines of former Yugoslavia, as well as in the Russian, Italian and Swiss press. Within half of the century he created more than 30.000 cartoons. Held 30 one-man shows of paintings and cartoons. He also received many awards, the most important of which was Golden Date in Bordigherra (Italy) in 1966. He became famous for his character named Živa Žežin, actually Lala (the nick name for the typical male inhabitant of Vojvodina), who became a kind of mascot of Vojvodina.
Received the Life Achievement Award from Yugoslav Journalists' Association (1995).

45. He could choose: timelessness of existence, eternity he would spend at the top of the Fortress, or shifting of the axis, resulting in derailment of the Universe. He already knew the answer; he wanted to take the precious Books in the Old World, the world he could not remember anymore, but was sure of its existence.
